An USCT Chaplains thoughts on Emancipation Day

Come to Historic London Town and Gardens and join living history reenactor, Joseph Feaster, as he portrays James Underdue; a Chaplain assigned to the 39th United States Colored Troops (USCT). As one of only 14 black Chaplains serving during the Civil War, listen to what Emancipation Day meant to him, his troops, and their struggle for freedom. A question-and-answer session will follow the program. Members: Free. Non-Members: Admission rates apply.

Guided Tours

Public Tours:

• 45-minute outdoor walking tours in the Historic Area and William Brown House at 11:00am and 2:30pm. Wednesday through Sunday.​​​​​​​

• 45-minute guided garden tours on Saturdays and Sundays at 1:30pm.​

Private Group Tours​:

• We provide your group with a private tour of the historic area, gardens, or a combination of the two. These are perfect for large groups or for those who want a more personalized experience.

The Journey of my Ancestors

Reverend Lawrence Walker will share the journey of his ancestors toward equality at James Madison’s Montpelier. He will emphasize the importance of including descendant voices in the narrative of colonial and early American history. As a member of the Board of Directors at Montpelier and President of the Montpelier Descendants Committee, Reverend Walker brings a unique perspective to this vital conversation. Members: Free.
