PHOTOGRAPHY POLICIES

London Town is delighted that you are considering our site as the location for your photos. The guidelines outlined below are intended for all guests, but a permit is necessary for those who wish to use Historic London Town and Gardens as a backdrop for posed, directed, commercial, and/or professional photography. We ask all photographers to please help us to maintain the integrity of the site by honoring these policies.

Guest & Visitor Photography

London Town welcomes and encourages guest & visitor photographs; they are a wonderful way to remember your visit. For your own enjoyment, you are welcome to take snapshot photographs of plants, individuals and subjects that capture the events of your visit. Historic London Town and Gardens defines a snapshot as an informal photograph that is shot spontaneously and quickly without artistic intent. Guests should still observe our policy under General Photography Guidelines. You may share your photos of the Gardens on social media outlets, including Facebook and Instagram. If you do, please consider tagging us (#historiclondontown).

Portrait Photography

London Town defines portrait photography as all posed portraiture of individuals or groups by professional or amateur photographers, whether paid or unpaid. Historic London Town and Gardens reserves the right to further define Portrait Photography on a case-by-case basis.

All portrait and commercial photography must be approved and scheduled in advance. Inquiries can be emailed to londontown@historiclondontown.org. London Town reserves the right to decline a reservation request at our discretion.

Requests for photography sessions must be submitted at least one week in advance for sessions held during museum hours (check the homepage for our hours) and two weeks in advance for sessions held outside of museum hours. Please note we do not have any photoshoots on Mondays and Tuesdays. Reservations are approved and accepted up to 4 days before the requested reservation time.

All photographers are required to check in at the Visitor Center upon entering the site and before capturing any images, unless told otherwise.

Photo sessions held during museum hours are charged $50 per 2-hour block. After-hours photo sessions are charged $175 per 2-hour block. If a photo session will end after 9:00 pm additional fees may apply.

Photographers who use the site frequently may acquire a special membership for $200 per year. This special membership allows photographers to forgo payment of the $50 fee per session during museum hours and receive a special rate of $75 per session for before or after-hours photography. Photographer members are still required to abide by the policies concerning reservation and payment described above.

Photo sessions with a fee require a $50 non-refundable deposit to hold reservations. This should be paid either two weeks after receiving the confirmation and invoice or when the reservation is made, whichever is closest to the reservation date.

In the event of inclement weather, the photo session may be rescheduled and any fees paid will be applied to the new reservation.

Wedding photography (including portraits of brides, grooms, and wedding party in wedding attire) follows a different set of fees. Please contact events@historiclondontown.org for more information.

Drone Photography

All drone photography (personal or professional) must be approved and scheduled in advance. Inquiries can be emailed to londontown@historiclondontown.org. London Town reserves the right to decline a reservation request at our discretion.

Requests for drone photography sessions must be submitted at least two weeks in advance for sessions. Reservations are approved and accepted up to 4 days before the requested reservation time. At this time we can only schedule drone photography on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays).

Drone photographers must follow all local, state and federal laws regarding drone operation. They must confirm to London Town that they have informed Lee Airport of their flight (including date and time).

Commercial Photography & Videography

London Town welcomes inquiries about commercial photography & videography for film, television, advertising, and other similar shoots. Final approval for these has to come from the Executive Director. Please email inquiries to londontown@historiclondontown.org.

Solo Artists and Photographers

When visiting on their own, artists and photographers need not pre-register. But they must adhere to the guidelines listed below and avoid disrupting other visitors or London Town activities. Solo artists and photographers will be charged the usual admission fee.

Artists or photographers seeking to bring a class for a field trip to London Town, or photo clubs seeking to visit, must register their groups in advance. Such groups may be asked to restrict their activities to certain places or times, depending on London Town’s schedule and the size of the group. Depending on the exact size and purpose of a photography or painting class trip to London Town, the fee may vary (but will not be less than regular admission).

Wedding Photography

Wedding photography (including portraits of brides, grooms, and wedding party in wedding attire) follows a different set of fees. Please contact events@historiclondontown.org for more information.

The following rules apply to all photography at Historic London Town and Gardens:
  • Flow of visitors and London Town activities must not be blocked at any time.

  • Guests, photographers, and their equipment must stay on pathways – walking in plant beds or behind plant beds or placing equipment in beds is prohibited.

  • Plants and planted containers may not be moved, rearranged, or handled in any way. Blooms may not be picked.

  • Visitors may not climb or hang from trees or architectural features.

  • Portrait photography within our historic area buildings must be pre-approved.

  • Any use of electrical equipment, including additional lighting, must be approved in advance of the shoot. All cords or wires must be placed and guarded in a way that doesn’t alter the pathways and put visitors at risk.

  • Photographers will be held accountable for their actions and those of clients, crew members and models if they damage London Town’s facilities and property.

If any individual/group does not comply with the above conditions, Historic London Town and Gardens reserves the right to deny permission to photograph and may request that the individual/group leave the premises and forfeit their admission/reservation fee.
